The history of On the Record is over 20 years in the making.

Our Process

At this time we have a dozen or so court reporters working for On the Record in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, Georgia and surrounding states.  These people are responsible for making good tape recordings and taking notes so that the transcriber is given names of speakers and other necessary information.  After the recordings are made, the cassette tapes are sent to Austin for transcription.

On the Record is a subcontractor for several Washington, D.C. firms which have contracts for federal agency work all over the U.S. In addition, On the Record itself holds a number of federal and state contracts. Our largest contract is with the United States Tax Court, covering a 27-state area. We provide reporters for hearings throughout our area and occasionally go elsewhere. We sometimes cover local hearings but are not generally in competition with local court reporters. We cover mostly administrative hearings, such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, or the United States Tax Court. Deadlines for delivery of transcripts vary from overnight to 30 days.

For rate information or for any questions, please call or e-mail us.  Rates will vary upon requested delivery time and type of work needed.

Our Company

On the Record has been in business since 1981.  The business began when Sunny Peer, a Texas Certified Shorthand Reporter, became interested in acquiring court reporting work for federal agencies in Texas.  After discussing the prospect with a Washington, D.C. firm which held contracts for such work, she decided the best way to go about this would be to train people to make clear tape recordings of these hearings in such a way that they could be easily and accurately transcribed. She formed On the Record Reporting, later to be joined in this endeavor in 1984 by Laurel Stoddard. At the end of 2004 Ms. Peer retired from the day-to-day business of the company, and On the Record Reporting & Transcription, Inc., of which Laurel Stoddard is president, was formed solely for the purpose of carrying on the business of On the Record.
